The Best Tool for Embedding Spreadsheet Data in Webpages

Gone are the days when user had to buy expensive Excel add-ons to embed spreadsheet data into HTML web pages. Now one can use free online spreadsheet programs like Zoho Sheet, Google Docs & Spreadsheet or EditGrid to post live spreadsheet data on blogs.

We do a quick comparison of the embed feature offered by the above spreadsheet tools to help user decide the best online spreadsheet for userr job.

Google Spreadsheet: Google converts the spreadsheet data into HTML tables and embeds it using the IFRAME tag. You can either embed the entire spreadsheet, a specific sub-sheet or just a range of cells from one sheet (say A1:D9).

The spreadsheet data embedded in webpages will either remain static or refresh every five minutes depending on the settings that user have chosen at the time of publishing the Google sheet.

Since the embedded data is rendered as plain HTML table, site visitors can do little except view the data or copy-paste as plain text.

Zoho Sheet: Zoho has long been our favorite tool when it comes to embedding spredsheets. Upload an excel spreadsheet to Zoho, click the Publish button on the Zoho Sheet menu bar and user get a small HTML snippet for pasting inside userr blog - still the most user-friendly and non-geeky method.

Visitors can add/delete/format data inside the embedded sheets, perform calculations or even save the edited version onto their local hard-drives in Excel format.

EditGrid: With EditGrid, user get completely customize the look-n-feel of userr embedded spreadsheet including the cell colors, dimensions, headers and the grid lines. Depending on userr blogging platform, user can either embed data using HTML tables (DHTML) or though Javascript snippets.

Like ZohoSheet, EditGrid also provides a full-featured interactive but read-only spreadsheet with the menu bar. Visitors can easily export the spreadsheet data into variety of format including xls, pdf, csv, etc. However, user do not have the option to show specific sheet pages with Edit Grid.

Final Thoughts: We liked the different custom options offered by EditGrid and also that visitors can export spreadsheet data into multiple formats without leaving userr web page.

Google Spreadsheets are plain HTML formatted text but they can be very useful in situations when the underlying data is changing quickly (like stock quotes or currency rates).

Zoho allows visitors to interact with the spreadsheet and save the changed data locally, a feature missing in all other online sheets.

IE Does Not Remember Name and Password Sign into Blogger Blogspot the easy way

Get Auto complete working your way.

For most PCs using Internet Explorer, the Blogger Dashboard (http://www.blogger.com/home?pli=1) will not remember the name and password. Do this if your blogger sign in details are the same as your Gmail account.

Go to the Google/Blogger sign in page:

Type in your username usually your email address and password.

You will be taken to a page with all your Google owned sites listed:

Note: Blogger is on the list.
No, dont click it yet!

Now right click the mouse and add the Google sign in page to "Favorites"- the "https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount?pli=1" page (see this URL in IE address window).

Click Favorites at the top of IE.
Go down to the end of the Favorites list.

Note that it is there at the bottom as
https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount?pli=1.

Left click on this Favorite and drag it up onto the "Favorites Bar".
Right click and rename it "Blogger Account".

Next time you open Internet Explorer go to the Favorites Bar, click on the "Blogger Account" icon. When the Gmail page opens click on "Blogger" and your into the Blogger account very quick.

Oddly, if you have signed out of your Blogger account (like at Startup) and click the "Blogger Account" icon in the Favorites Bar, the page will now probably open with the normal Blogger sign in page and the autosave name and password feature will be working! Internet Explorer is a very peculiar creature

Another odd thing is that after you have done the above, Slim Browser which works by using the IE system on the computer will load you directly into Blogger using the "http://www.blogger.com/home?pli=1&pli=1" link (note it is a different sign in page) without even asking for a name and password whether you are signed in or out of Blogger (but not IE). It makes you wonder just how many sign in pages Google and Blogger need?

P.S. Make sure "Protected Mode" is ticked in "Restricted sites", "Local intranet", Trusted sites" and Restricted sites" in Security on Internet Options. Otherwise, Blogger could keep opening IE after IE, over and over, because Internet Explorer is weird.

How to Uninstall the Vista Service Pack

In the world of computer operating systems, controversy surrounded the release of Windows Vista. Said to be a cumbersome system hog, Vista utilized a ton of your computers memory and processing resources and frequently interfered with your applications in the name of security. With everyone complaining, Microsoft released service packs for Vista that addressed some of the common problems and other security issues. For some people, installing a service pack caused more problems, such as loss of Internet connectivity or proper application functioning. Uninstalling a service pack can sometimes fix such problems. There are two primary methods for doing so.

Instructions

    Using the Application Wizard

  1. Step 1

Click the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your desktop.

  2. Step 2

Type "appwiz.cpl" in the search box, then choose "Appwiz" from the list of programs that comes up. Wait for the program to start.

  3. Step 3

Click the option to "View installed updates." A list of all the updates that you have installed for Windows Vista will display.

  4. Step 4

Find the service pack that you wish to uninstall, highlight it, and click "Uninstall." Follow the instructions that are displayed to complete the uninstallation process.

  5. Using System Restore

  6. Step 1

Click the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your desktop.

  7. Step 2

Type "System Restore" in the search box there, then choose it from the list of programs that comes up. System zrestore can take a few moments to start, so give it time.

  8. Step 3

Check the "Choose a Different Restore Point" option when the dialogue box comes up. Then click "Next." Windows will display a list of updates for which it has created restore points. Restoring your computer will restore its state from before that particular update was installed. Note that it will roll back all updates that came after that one as well.

  9. Step 4

Find the restore point that was made for the service pack you wish to uninstall. If it is not in the list, you may need to check the "Show restore points older than 5 days" box. When you find it, highlight it, then click "Next."

  10. Step 5

Click "Finish." Windows will warn you that once you start the restore process, it is irreversible. Give Windows permission to go forward. The restore process will take several minutes; when it is finished, your service pack and all subsequent updates will be uninstalled.
